Recruitment chief Lee Dykes says Carlisle United’s new boys will give the Blues a more lethal edge.

Igniting a creative spark has been the key driver of the club’s summer signings so far, he has revealed.

Fresh faces Jamie Devitt and Nicky Adams were ranked first and third for assists in League Two last season, with 15 and 12 each to their names.

In comparison, Carlisle’s highest ranked was Jason Kennedy with six.

Dykes hopes the new recruits will add to United’s scoring potency.

He said: “We felt that creating goals was something we lacked towards the latter end of the season.

“And certainly in games such as Dagenham and Redbridge away, when we created so many chances and we just needed that little bit extra.

“What Jamie and Nicky will give you is a direct goal threat as well, they will score goals as opposed to just creating them too.

“They are very experienced in creating goals or making the right pass in the final third, and they are both technically astute footballers.”

Both signings have bought into the manager Keith Curle’s attacking philosophy, and Dykes is excited with what they will bring to Carlisle in the upcoming season.

He added: “Both could probably play a higher standard than League Two and we hope both can with Carlisle United in the next few seasons.

“But we don’t try and bring League Two standard footballers in.

“We try to bring in progressive football players to progress the club, so that the football club is always on the move in the right direction.”

Devitt racked up three assists against Carlisle last year, two of them in Morecambe’s 3-2 win at Brunton Park in October.

And Adams provided two assists in Northampton’s 3-2 victory last season against United.

Dykes says that strong performances against their side is always something that he and Curle keep tabs on and that played a huge part in the signing of Reggie Lambe as well.

He said: “When we see various players play well against us we always take a note of that.

“Reggie is someone we’ve tracked for a couple of years. We saw him come good last season in our eyes and saw him look comfortable in the league.

“Reggie will give us something different when the games are tight. In the two games he played against us last year we thought he was exceptional.”

Bermudan international Lambe will bring an unpredictability to Curle’s side and that, according to Dykes, will be something that his team-mates will adapt around to bring out the best in the winger.

He added: “He’s very creative, he can see a final pass as well as shoot from distance as well and grab a goal.

“He’s got that unorthodox approach, when you watch him in games you think ‘Hell, he’s done that, excellently.’

“Many people don’t know what Reggie is going to do with the ball and that can only be good in terms of his end product.

“We will have to drive into the team ethics that we know what Reggie’s strengths are, and what his trends are in the final third so we can profit from them.”
