Manchester United are set to put Cumbrian goalkeeping star Dean Henderson up for sale, according to reports.

The news will put Carlisle United on alert for a potential windfall, with the Blues standing to benefit from a sell-on clause.

Henderson, according to Football Insider, is one of six first-team players the Red Devils are prepared to sell this summer.

Henderson is named along with Anthony Martial, Donny Van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Brandon Williams and Harry Maguire.

The Whitehaven star is currently on a season-long loan with Nottingham Forest and working his way back from a thigh injury.

The City Ground club could be among those interested in a permanent swoop for the 25-year-old, with Tottenham Hotspur also having been linked recently.

Man Utd's first-choice No1 David de Gea is reportedly on course for a new contract - and Henderson is unlikely to want to play second fiddle when he returns to his parent club.

The Football Insider report says Old Trafford boss Erik ten Hag has been told that he must sell players in order to invest in new signings.

Henderson, until his recent injury, had returned to prominence in the Premier League with Forest, making 20 appearances in league and cup.

He was also recalled into the England squad last September.

Forest boss Steve Cooper, meanwhile, said the ex-Carlisle academy keeper - who joined Man Utd back in 2011 - is still some weeks away from a return to fitness.

“He’s had another scan," Cooper told the Forest website.

"He’s recovering and on course for what the injury is, but there’s still a show to say he’s not quite ready and he’s a few weeks away from the final stages of his rehabilitation.

"It’s unlikely he will train before the international break.”
