Just two League Two games beat the freeze this weekend - but it was enough to send Carlisle United down another place in the table.

That was a consequence of Swindon Town's 1-0 victory at Barrow.

An early penalty by Louis Reed was enough for all three points for the Robins in south Cumbria.

It came after the home side's ex-Carlisle keeper Paul Farman had fouled Jacob Wakeling.

The victory saw Scott Lindsey's Swindon climb to fourth in the table, with Pete Wild's Barrow dropping two places to sixth, behind Mansfield Town on goal difference, following back-to-back defeats.

Carlisle duly slipped a place to seventh, with their game at Northampton Town one of a host of fixtures to be postponed.

The other fourth-tier game to survive saw Leyton Orient underline their promotion-chasing strength.

They beat Sutton United 2-0 at the Breyer Group Stadium.

A Paul Smyth opener and an Alistair Smith own-goal took Richie Wellens' side seven points clear at the top of the table, on 51 points.

The Os' fourth straight win also put them 16 points above the play-off places.

Matt Gray's Sutton remained 16th.

Orient got their game on after using a heated dome to protect the pitch from the recent sub-zero temperatures.

Carlisle are back in action on Tuesday night with their rearranged game against the Cobblers, which is the only League Two game to be played before Boxing Day.

It will start a run of four games in 13 days for the Cumbrians.
