Cumbrian defender Jarrad Branthwaite deserves to stay in the PSV Eindhoven side, according to top Dutch boss Aad de Mos.

The former Carlisle United star scored and was named man of the match in PSV’s dramatic 4-3 win over Feyenoord last weekend.

It came in his first Eredivisie start since his season-long loan move from Everton.

And the 20-year-old was hailed for his performance by veteran former PSV, Ajax and Mechelen manager de Mos.

“He must never be taken out of the [defence] again,” said de Mos of Wigton star Branthwaite.

“He is very strong positionally. He can ensure that confidence returns to the PSV defence.”

Branthwaite produced a neat finish to convert a corner to bring PSV level at 1-1 in last Sunday’s game.

He went on to produce a strong showing as Ruud van Nistlerooy’s side claimed the victory that put them top of the table.

PSV next go to strugglers Cambuur on October 1.
