A Carlisle cycling store has closed its doors for the final time after more than 40 years in business following the retirement of its owner.
Scotby Cycles, on Church Street, announced that it had closed on Thursday, March 28 just over three months since its owner Gary Dickson has announced a huge closing-down sale in January ahead of his retirement.
Taking to social media, the local store which was 'one of the UK's biggest independent bike shops' announced: "We are now closed, and we would like to thank all our customers for your business for the last 40 years."
Owner Gary Dickson ahead of his retirement had previously echoed this sentiment and expressed his gratitude to the local cycling community for their support over the years.
We've seen a lot of changes over the years. We've gone through BMX (now twice), aluminum bikes - everything changing from steel to aluminum, and full steel suspensions coming in.
We've been here through Covid, foot and mouth, and floods.
"Thanks to all our customers over the years."
