After more than 40 years of serving the cycling community, one of the 'UK's largest independent bike shops' is bidding farewell to its Carlisle store with a huge closing-down sale ahead of the owner's retirement.

Scotby Cycles', on Church Street, sale will carry over three days beginning on January 25, offering unbeatable deals on a wide range of bikes, accessories, gear and equipment.

Owner Gary Dickson said: "We intend to have everything priced to be sold. It'll be a genuine sale.

"Everything will be extremely competitive, and we intend to sell everything we possibly can in those three days.

"To do that, you have to be half-price or significantly less.

"We're expecting a queue outside. If anyone is thinking of buying anything biking-related, you should definitely wait for the sale," Gary said.

The closing-down sale will offer in-store prices only. All purchases during the sale must be paid in full on the day.

"We're closing the bricks and mortar store but the online will stay going for longer.

"The plan is to get the stock right down. So, if anyone is interested in buying the business it will be at a lower cost or they will be able to do something different with the business," Gary said.

Scotby Cycles is currently in discussion with potential buyers for the business.

Interested parties are urged to act quickly, with the site still open to new ownership.

The shop is no longer taking on bike repairs and is currently closed until the sale begins on January 25 and will continue until January 28.

The sale begins at 9am.

Gary expressed his thanks and gratitude to all who have helped support his business over the years.

"We've seen a lot of changes over the years. We've gone through BMX (now twice), aluminum bikes - everything changing from steel to aluminum and full steel suspensions coming in. We've been here through Covid, foot and mouth, and floods.

"Thanks to all our customers over the years," Gary said.

The online store will keep running after the sale and can be accessed via www.scotbycycles.co.uk/
