AN AI image generator has visualised was people from Carlisle looked like throughout the 20th century.

Microsoft Bing's Artificial Intelligence image generator represents the next leap forward in accessible AI technology, and allows users to input prompts and have them created into vivid images in a variety of styles.

Previously we asked this AI to create seven different Carlisle-based scenarios which included questions such as, what would Carlisle look like if it was transported 1,000 years into the future? And what would the celebrations in Carlisle look like if Carlisle United won the Premier League?

In addition, we asked this image generator to use its artificial intelligence to show us what the 'average resident' of a number of Cumbrian towns and cities - such as Carlisle, Workington, and Whitehaven - would look like.

Now, we tested the capabilities of the AI image generator by asking it to show us what a person from Carlisle would look like from decade to decade in the 20th century, and the results did not disappoint, with the evolution of local style taking centre stage.
