The grounds at Carlisle Cemetery have been reopened after multiple trees were damaged due to high winds during last week’s storm.

Cumbria was battered by winds of up to 80 miles per hour after Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn moved through the county. 

Trees were felled and hundreds were left without power due to the storms. 

'Multiple' trees have sustained damage at Carlisle Cemetery and Cumberland Council closed the cemetery throughout last week but have since confirmed that they reopened the cemetery to members of the public on Monday, January 29.

A social media post from the council last week said: "Storm Isha has left its mark at Carlisle Cemetery.

"We are working hard to deal with the multiple trees damaged during the high winds.

"To ensure the grounds are safe for visitors, they will remain closed to the public until Monday, January 29.

"After it reopens, there may still be some areas cordoned off, so please avoid entering these parts of the grounds.

"Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”
