A COMEDIAN known for his hilarious role in the sitcom Two Doors Down as well as an all-singing, all-dancing, portrayal of Prince Andrew will be coming to Cumbria.

Kieran Hodgson will be stopping by the Old Fire Station on September 28 as part of his national tour, Big In Scotland, following a successful, sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The show explores Kieran stemming away from his Yorkshire roots and adjusting to life in Scotland, offering a humoristic perspective on national identity.

“I love Carlisle, my auntie lived there so I’m really excited to be starting the tour there.

“It’s a fitting place to do it considering the show is all about border-hopping," he said.

Despite his initial apprehension about his first Fringe run in five-years, the result was ultimately positive.

"What I talk about in the show is the slight fish out of water feeling of coming to Glasgow and encountering a very strong identity, culture and accent.

"It’s about in some ways trying to make myself Scottish and realising it’s quite hard to do and that I don’t have to do that to be accepted.

"I was full of anxiety about getting the jokes about Scotland right so that audiences would be able to tell they were sympathetic and full of admiration.

"I was overwhelmed with how good the sense of humour was over the course of the show.

"I’m really interested to see what the Carlisle response is like.

"I’ve done the show in Edinburgh and Dunfermline very solidly Scottish places and then down South.

"Maybe it’ll be like putting two magnets together, maybe none of the jokes will work or all of them will – I don’t quite know yet," he said.

Growing up in the village where they filmed Last of the Summer Wine, Kieran said sitcoms had always been in his 'orbit' and looks forward to having the hit comedy show Two Doors Down returning to screens this year.

As a writer and performer on TV, Kieran has created and starred in three acclaimed specials for Channel 4: How Europe Stole My Mum as well as Prince Andrew: The Musical.

He will also be playing in Kendal's Brewery Arts on September 27.

“I love the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, I’ve played there a few times in previous years.

"I think the Kendal audience is just so overwhelmed with happiness that they live near the Lake District, they come into the show full of joy and give that to me," he said.
