Carlisle bare-knuckle boxer Danny Christie’s recent title victory has seen him move into the world’s top five.

The Currock man is now rated the fourth best fighter in his category.

Christie’s victory over Anthony Holmes at BKFC 40 Leeds saw him claim the UK light-heavyweight title.

Rankings by top bare-knuckle website Knuckletown now have 38-year-old Christie as one of the leading contenders for the world title.

American star Lorenzo Hunt is the current light-heavyweight world champion, with Knuckletown rating fellow Americans Dave Mundell and Mike Richman as the number one and two contenders for the crown.

Christie is the number three ranked contender, having won his three BKFC fights to date against Holmes, Darren Godfrey and Terry Brazier.

Christie, after his fourth round knockout victory over former world champion Holmes last month, could now get a shot at 40-year-old Hunt for the world title.

Any details of a future contest with the American champion have not yet been confirmed.

Fight experts were quick to praise the powerful Carlisle puncher after he got the better of Holmes.

Commentating on the Leeds fight, former MMA star Chris Lytle said: “That is where Danny Christie, with the one-punch knockout power, has the advantage. He only needs to land one and he did.”
