This was the moment Carlisle’s Danny Christie won a “phenomenal fight” to become British bare-knuckle champion.

The Currock man floored former world champion Anthony Holmes in their clash at BKFC 40 Leeds.

Christie, 38, sent Holmes to the canvas twice in the fourth round.

It came after the Yorkshire fighter had proved an elusive opponent in the early rounds, also opening up a deep cut above Christie’s eye.

But the Carlisle fighter then went on the attack and clinched victory with some powerful salvos.

It earned Christie the UK light-heavyweight belt and he can now look forward to a world title shot against American Lorenzo Hunt.

Fight experts were quick to praise Christie’s power in the top-of-the-bill showdown on Saturday night.

Commentator Sean Wheelock said: “Anthony Holmes did some great things in that fight but the power and timing of Danny Christie was really shining through.”

Former bare-knuckle and MMA star Chris Lytle, also commentating for BKFC, added: “That’s the problem when you have to fight that perfect fight like Anthony Holmes, keep moving the entire time, not take that big punch – it just took that one shot, that straight right, and that was the beginning of the end.

“Holmes did a good job of trying to continue to fight but at that point [after the first knockdown] his key attribute, his movement, had gone. It was just a matter of time before Christie finished the fight off.

“That is where Danny Christie, with the one-punch knockout power, has the advantage. He only needs to land one and he did.”

“He is now the BKFC UK light heavyweight champion. A phenomenal fight, two phenomenal fighters,” Wheelock added.

Christie commented on his victory on his YouTube channel, saying: “To finish him in that manner…what a feeling.

“A massive shoutout to everybody that travelling down to Leeds and supported me, everyone that’s supported my journey, all the lovers and all the haters.

“It was a brilliant night.”
