Carlisle bare-knuckle boxer Danny Christie defeated Anthony Holmes to win a British title in a sensational victory.

The Currock fighter floored his opponent in the fourth round of their UK light-heavyweight contest at BKFC 40 Leeds.

Christie sent former world champion Holmes to the canvas twice as he went on the attack.

His second salvo was enough to end the contest with knocked-out Yorkshire fighter Holmes unable to continue.

The victory will earn Christie, 38, a world title shot against American star Lorenzo Hunt.

Christie clinched the fight after suffering a heavy cut above his left eye in the second round.

Home crowd favourite Holmes had proved an elusive opponent in the early rounds before the Carlisle man made his decisive move.

It was Christie’s third consecutive victory in the BKFC scene.

The fight was the Main Event on the card at Planet Ice in Leeds, with the UK 185lb title on the line.

Both fighters came into the contest undefeated in BKFC, with the opening round seeing Castleford favourite Holmes showing his sharpness to evade Christie's early punches.

The two men landed some powerful short punches in the second round with the elusive Holmes cleverly turning Christie against the ropes, the Carlisle fighter defending well.

Just before the bell Holmes went on the attack with some firm uppercuts, one of which drew blood with a big cut above Christie's left eye.

The Currock puncher stepped things up in the third round but things remained evenly-matched until Christie - with a cut also above his right eye by this stage - overpowered his opponent in the fourth.

Two impressive early shots sent Holmes down and, after the Yorkshireman got up and fought on, Christie went for the win, knocking his opponent down again with a huge right-hand shot.

The referee called an end to things and a blood-soaked Christie, after his victory was confirmed, went to check on his opponent as a still-prone Holmes received treatment.

The two men later embraced after the Carlisle man was presented with his title belt.

It was Christie's biggest win yet after previous BKFC victories over Terry Brazier and Darren Godfrey.

He will now head to the USA in a bid to become world champion.
