Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of a 39-year-old man on the A596.
The incident took place at Bank End, near Thursby on Sunday (August 21) at around 5:35am and involved a Silver Ford MPV and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification has not yet taken place.
A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Officers are appealing to motorists who were travelling along the A596 between Thursby and Wigton on Sunday August 21 between 1am and 5:30am to get in touch if they saw any pedestrians along their route.
"In particular a taxi driver who may have seen the pedestrian around the junction of the A596/B5302 which is the first junction into Wigton if travelling from the Thursby/Carlisle direction on the A596 at around 3am.
"Anyone with any information regarding the incident or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC 2209 Richard Staley on 101 or email SCIU@cumbria.police.uk, quoting log number 53 of the August 21," they said.
