PLANS have been lodged to extend a Brampton care home, creating additional living spaces for residents.

Carlisle City Council has received a proposal to redevelop Greenlane Care Home in Brampton, which the agent describes as “one of many attempts to increase capacity of the existing facility.

If approved, the single storey extension will create 17 additional en-suite bedrooms for residents and new communal areas.

In supporting statements, Zub Architecture said: “The newly created spacious bedrooms will all feature en-suite shower rooms, as well as direct access to the garden.

“The extension includes well-lit extensive living and dining areas, also with direct access to the garden and located centrally in the building, allowing for more social interactions.”

Wide corridors and accessible rooms have been made a priority when designing the layout, complying with residential home legislation.

While addressing the demand for places, the care home’s extension also makes the most of the disused part of the rear garden. The flattest area of the communal garden will remain for the use of the home’s residents.

Maintenance areas will be located in the centre of the building with access to the rear service route, this is designed to operations from the residents.

The agent told the council in supporting statements that the proposal, one of numerous at the site, puts quality over quantity.

Zub Architecture said that the new building will have a modern look and feel: “The proposal has been designed to ensure minimal visual impact on the existing building - it's architectural style is contemporary, but with use of traditional form.

“The materials have been selected to compliment the existing building, while ensuring it's own identity. The light brown render links to the existing brickwork and the vertical timber cladding will add the contemporary feel.”

The lighting will aid the visually impaired and calming colours will make it a peaceful environment.
