A young girl decided that she would get her hair cut off at the weekend to raise money for The Little Princess Trust.

Elise Lazonby, 10, of Carlisle, had her hair cut in Carlisle Market on Saturday, July 23.

She decided that she would grow her hair out very long and donate it to the charity which makes wigs for children with illnesses like cancer.

Her mum, Tracy Lazonby, was delighted with her little girls idea. She said: "We got the idea a couple of years ago and she has grown her hair long enough to be able to donate.

"Elise has been very excited about this and it feels like it has been a long time coming. As well as donating her hair, Elise will also be raising money with £95 raised prior to her haircut and more still to come in.

"Some of the money has been raised through her Just Giving page whilst she has also received cash donations.

"Elise had originally only aimed to raise £50 but she surpassed that very quickly.

"I think it is really a lovely thing to do and to help another child, I think that it's quite remarkable for a ten year old and we're all really proud of her."
