A BID to build a residential development of about nine homes has been submitted to the council for approval.

Allerdale Borough Council has received a planning application for a residential development on land adjacent to Birkby Lodge, Crosby.

The application has been submitted in outline so early plans are just to give councillors and indication of how large the development could be, but the proposal at this stage is for about nine homes.

More details about the development will be revealed in a follow-up reserved matters application if approval is given for homes at the site in principle.

PFK Planning & Development, as the agent, has submitted the proposal for a site located to the south-west of Crosby.

A bid to build a development of the same size on the land has previously been approved but the planning permission lapsed due to “difficulty finding a developer” during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PFK say that their bid “will be well-contained by existing natural landscape features and will be viewed within the context of the existing buildings.”

Supporting statements submitted with the application read: “Whilst the design of the dwellings is a reserved matter, we will ensure that the development is of an appropriate scale, mass, design and form to the surrounding residential properties and the character of the village.

“A new vehicular access to the site will be created from the A596.”

PFK said that a supply of small-scale housing development is appropriate for Crosby and therefore supported in principle.

“The principle of residential development within the settlement of Crosby is supported by local and national planning policy. The proposed development will not result in any adverse impacts that would significantly or demonstrably outweigh the benefits of the scheme.”

The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Allerdale Borough Council.

Councillors will take comments of support or objection into account when giving their verdict on plans.
