THE Maryport rescue team saw a busy weekend of callouts including the recovery of an overturned vessel.

Following the attempted rescue of a rabbit on Friday, on Saturday evening the Maryport Inshore Rescue team was tasked by Belfast coastguards to help carry a woman off a beach at Maryport promenade after she entered the water.

Then yesterday afternoon (July 3), they were tasked by the Belfast coastguards to reports of a 'may day' call just off Maryport.

The Spirit of Maryport was launched to recover the casualty vessel, which had lost power.

Upon arrival, the vessel capsized, throwing the boat owner and one of the Maryport team into the sea.

Both were quickly recovered and brought back to the harbour.

The lifeboat then returned to tow the upturned boat to the Woods harbour where they were met by Maryport Coastguard who assisted in righting the boat before it was returned to the marina.
