MARYPORT Inshore Rescue has issued a warning about the dangers of mud and silt following the stranding of a small rabbit.
Concerns arose from a Facebook post on Friday morning in which members of the public had offered to go into the mud to recover the rabbit, which was stuck in the silt in Maryport harbour.
The independent rescue group deployed their 'rescue paths' across the mud in an attempt to save it.
A spokesperson from said: "We would like to remind the public that the mud is a very dangerous place, and under no circumstances should anyone attempt to enter it, for any reason.
"Should you get stuck in mud, advice is to lay flat and spread as much weight as you can across the surface, and dial 999 asking for the coastguard."
