A CARLISLE School has received a letter from the Queen.

This comes after pupils at Inglewood Infant School had been learning all about the monarch.

The school's Year 2 class has been learning about the queen in their history lessons, in which they have been learning some key facts, such as her having two birthdays, having reined for 70 years this year, and that she has four children.

The class has also been busy creating some interesting artwork which they completed using a collage effect with tissue paper.

News and Star:

According to Inglewood Infant School's assistant headteacher, Nicola Bardgett, some of this artwork has been entered into a national competition for the Royal Academy of Arts.

In English lessons, the Year 2 class took to writing some letters to the Queen, describing their recent educational exploits, as well as congratulating her Platinum Jubilee, as well as telling her how they have planned to celebrate the milestone.

The assistant headteacher said that they plan to celebrate the Jubilee by having a party picnic lunch, in which schoolchildren will arrive dressed in red, white and blue coloured clothing.

They will also be planting red, white and blue flowers, and singing the national anthem.

Nicola said: "This week we were delighted and surprised to receive a letter back from Buckingham Palace.

News and Star:

"The Queen thanked us for the letters we sent, was pleased to hear about our plans to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee and hopes we have a very happy time."

The school joins several groups and towns that are planning similar celebrations, such as Penrith's Jubilee Jamboree and St Kentigern's Church in Irthington.
