A church is putting on a weekend of events, including a special memorium for a much loved and well-missed member of the community.

St Kentigern's Church in Irthington will be putting on 'A Weekend of Memories of Gordon & Celebrations' from May 13 to 15 this year.

The celebrations include a celebration for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee on Friday, May 13, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, as well as an evening of entertainment from the Young Farmers on Saturday, May 14, from 7:30 pm.

The third event of the weekend celebrations will be the 'Musical Extravaganza' event, on Sunday, May 15, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, which will include afternoon tea and fizz.

All proceeds that come from these events will go towards the church, as well as towards Cancer Rearch UK.

The events are part in memory of Gordon Brown, who was a big part of St Kentigern's Church, being an organist there for over 25 years, and he was also the churchwarden for a period - as well as being closely involved with the Young Farmers.
