PRODUCERS from across the county are gearing up to sell their goods at the second Taste of Wigton event this weekend.

The town will host the Taste Cumbria festival on Saturday, April 23 and are planning on making the event bigger and better with even more for all the family to enjoy.

From food and drink to homecrafts and dog treats, a variety of stalls will be open for visitors to treat themselves.

The Young Entrepreneur’s Market and the Cake Off competition, where judges will pick the best baked good from members of the public, will also take place during the day.

As well as the food stalls, more events will take place around the town for guests to enjoy.

From 1-2pm, Brian Campbell will taking groups round Fountain Gallery, talking about the art and the artists. Brian has worked as an artist and teacher in the Wigton area for almost 60 years. The event is free and guests are invited to turn up.

Photographer Trevor Grahamslaw will also be showing a plethora of slides as part of his ‘Picturing Wigton’ talk in the Methodist Church at 5:30pm.  This event is also free.

Fairground rides, face painting, a treasure hunt organised by Futamura and activities by Rainbow Wishes Foundation will also be on offer to keep the children occupied.

Discussing the festival, Wigton’s mayor, David Ferriby said: “The first Taste of Wigton last autumn was a huge success - and this one will be even more so. The wide range of activities during the day should bring lots of people into the town.

“Not all the local shops benefit immediately, but we are trying on the Town Council to encourage more people in and around Wigton to see it as a vibrant town centre with a good selection of individualistic shops catering for most needs.

“We hope that visitors on the day will come back to use the shops and be keen to enjoy other events that are outlined in the publicity leaflet for this spring and summer."

There will be plenty of parking spaces available for the event, with free parking available at Nelson Thomlinson’s car park on the High Street.
