WIGTON residents have the chance to step back in time as a photographer speaks about his work.

Picturing Wigton with Trevor Grahamslaw takes place in the town’s Cornerstone Methodist Church on Saturday, April 23.

The talk will highlight aspects of Wigton residents are all familiar with and demonstrate photography’s remarkable ability to artistically document our world in a split second. We hope this talk followed by a quick Q&A will be enlightening, moving and entertaining for residents and visitors.

Born 1958 in Carlisle, Trevor moved to Wigton where he attended the Thomlinson Junior and Nelson Thomlinson Schools, before beginning work in the Civil Service, which he combined with a more exciting career as a professional freelance photographer.

Over the years Trevor has held many solo exhibitions of his work highlighting the social life of the Solway, often combining comparative images with pictures of the past drawn from his vast collection of archive photographs. This interest in the past has blossomed resulting in the publication of five photographic history books featuring Wigton and the Solway area together with hundreds of historical articles. Trevor also recently enjoyed a spell as District Correspondent for the Cumberland News.

Trevor’s current projects include continuing to catalogue his growing photographic collection of over 35,000 images for the Cumbrian Archive together with writing another book based on Wigton and of course continuing to photograph.

The event takes place during the Taste of Wigton event organised by Visit Allerdale.

The 50-minute presentation will begin at 5:30pm and is free to attend.
