Carlisle United 4 Yeovil Town 0: Danny Grainger, Hallam Hope and Shaun Miller were all on target as Carlisle thrashed 10-man Yeovil at Brunton Park.

The Blues claimed only their second home win in League Two this season - but their biggest at Brunton Park since Januarry 2011 - in emphatic style.

Grainger put them in front with a stunning early strike before Hope made it two shortly before the break.

Glovers defender Bevis Mugabi was then shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident that saw ref Ben Toner award United a 75th-minute penalty.

Grainger drilled the spot-kick home, and sub Miller added a fourth from close range in injury-time in front of a 4,189 crowd.

The only setback on a day that saw United climb two places to 14th was a first-half injury to Nicky Adams that saw the winger substituted.

Keeper Jack Bonham saved United in the opening minutes when he denied Sam Surridge.

Captain Grainger then opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he let fly with a wonderful left-footed effort from outside the box which flew high past keeper Artur Krysiak.

Adams, recalled by manager Keith Curle, then hurt his left leg in a challenge with Mugabi and was unable to continue, Miller coming off the bench in the 28th minute and striker Hope moving to the left of midfield.

It was a first half of few other chances but Carlisle finished it strongly, Miller denied by Krysiak with a shot from outside the box.

Richie Bennett missed a free header, but United then made it two with a slick passing move that saw Luke Joyce feed Miller and the sub's low cross driven home by Hope for his seventh of the season.

Yeovil made a double substitution at the break but seldom looked like mounting a fightback.

Hope and Liddle tested Krysiak early in the second half, Hope also volleying a good chance into the side-netting.

Things then took a dramatic turn after 72 minutes when United, preparing to take a free-kick, were awarded a penalty.

That came after Toner produced a red card for an off the ball incident involving Mugabi.

Many in the ground were perplexed by the penalty decision, which Curle later said was awarded after the linesman spotted a punch.

Grainger stepped up and fired it low past Krysiak.

United kept Yeovil at bay as Darren Way's side tried to find a way back, and then made it four at the death when Liddle's cross was turned towards goal by sub Kelvin Etuhu, and Miller fired it high into the net.

Ex-United man James Bailey captained Yeovil, who were without suspended Francois Zoko, while there was no place for Jamie Devitt in the Carlisle squad.

On Adams' injury, Curle said the winger had jarred his knee and while United are hoping it is not a serious problem, it will be given 48 hours to settle first.
