Firefighters from Wigton and Carlisle were called out to help a boy who was on a roof in West Woodside, near Wigton.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 8pm last night after being told a boy needed to be rescued from a roof of a house.

As Carlisle west station crew rushed to the scene they were reportedly turned back because they boy had gone back into the house.

A spokesman said: "They then got back to the station but by the time they got there he was back on the roof."

It is understood that firefighters from the retained Wigton station helped the boy down with a 9m rescue ladder.

Police were also called to the scene but have not yet released any information about the incident.

Saturday proved a busy day for firefighters across the county with call outs to a chip pan fire in Frizington and chimney fire in Croglin. Firefighters is Carlisle, Wigton, Whitehaven, Frizington, Lazonby and Brampton all attended calls.
