Estranged husband banned from Morrisons after defying order

An estranged husband has been banned from the north Carlisle supermarket where his wife works after he flouted a court order designed to stop him stalking her.

Alan Doran, 59, committed the offence by repeatedly calling his daughter in an attempt to get a message to his wife Alison, the city's Rickergate court heard.

Carlisle son 'defending mum' overturns New Year assault conviction

A son who repeatedly punched a female neighbour during a violent incident at a New Year’s Day gathering in Carlisle was defending his mother, a court heard.

Former offender Gavin Johnston, 37, was last year found guilty of an actual bodily harm assault on the woman, but after a three-hour appeal at the city’s crown court he overturned the conviction.

Man charged with three rapes yet to enter a plea

A north Cumbrian man has appeared before a district judge charged with three counts of rape - Michael Kennedy, 55, did not enter any pleas.

Man had child abuse images of victims as young as four

A young west Cumbrian man has been put on the Sex Offender Register after he downloaded images of children as young as four being sexually abused.

Cameron Hodgson, 21, who committed the offences when he was 19, admitted downloading 24 indecent child images, including 10 which were classified as Category A, the most serious kind.

Carlisle visitor stole presents for relatives from city's B&M store

A repeat shoplifter who stole from a B&M store in Carlisle said he committed the crime so he had presents to give to his cousins.

Alexandru Balta, 42, who also stole toothbrushes, admitted stealing from the store on April 6. But he was detained by store security staff at the store before he could get away, Carlisle’s Rickergate court heard.

Banned and drunk driver took his five-year-old on dangerous M6 journey

A banned motorist risked both his life and that of his five-year-old son during a "reckless and dangerous" journey on the M6 near Carlisle.

Stuart Sutcliffe, 43, who was driving on the motorway towards Carlisle while "highly intoxicated," was seen taking his Ford Ranger the wrong way along a slip-road into Southwaite Service Station.

Carlisle window cleaner jailed for 'abhorrent' racist attack on woman

A woman bus passenger was subjected to “abhorrent” racist abuse by a Carlisle window cleaner who then assaulted her.

The fearful victim of the unprovoked attack launched by 46-year-old Paul Metcalfe was left so traumatised that she now avoids using buses and she no longer braids her hair in an attempt to look “less African,” a court heard.

Fraudster took 93-year-old's savings for work he never did

A dishonest Penrith tradesman who defrauded two elderly neighbours out of hundreds of pounds has been jailed.

Ground works specialist Lee Morgan, 33, who was previously prosecuted for fabricating a story about his wife attempting to kill herself to avoid being evicted, first conned a 93-year-old woman out of her £1,400 savings.

Thief who stole Bell's whisky from Workington Tesco sent back to jail

A shoplifter has been put back behind bars after stealing bottles of whisky by wrapping the security tags in tin foil.

Sean McAvoy, 48, breached a criminal behaviour order, which bans him from going in certain stores in Workington.
