Whitehaven's injury-hit squad has been given a lift by the arrival of their two loan signings for this afternoon’s derby clash with Workington.

Coach James Coyle said ahead of the Summer Bash showdown in Blackpool: “It’s been a timely and welcome boost for everyone with two new faces in the squad.

“I believe they will be important signings, two young lads who are used to the system we use and will slot right into the team.”

Ugo Perez will start in the second-row while prop Anthony Walker is more likely to be used from the bench.

Perez has had two Super League outings for Catalans Dragons and has been starring with their feeder club UTC where he is regarded as a young player with great potential.

Walker, who moved from St Helens to Wakefield last year on a permanent deal, is no stranger to Whitehaven having played for the Cumbrian club on dual registration from Saints.

“I was tipped-off about Anthony and happy about the source of the recommendation. He has been itching for a game but with Wakefield going so well in Super League there haven’t been any opportunities for him," said Coyle.

“I’ve only seen video clips of Ugo but have been impressed. In truth we have been short of a left-sided second row forward so he’s going to be a perfect fit,” said Coyle.

Haven will also welcome back record-breaking Craig Calvert; Dion Aiye and Chris Taylor who all missed the trip to London last week.

“In a way it was best that Chris wasn’t with us in London as his mother died on Sunday and he was able to spend time with his dad,” said Coyle.

The game is being billed as the most important game in Haven/Town history – until the next one! They meet for the third time in the Championship on Sunday July 17.

This afternoon’s derby at Bloomfield Road will be overseen by a west Cumbrian.

Neil Robinson, who now lives in Blackpool, has been appointed match commissioner.
