Coach Carl Forster will be leading from the front again when Whitehaven bid to kick-start their season at West Hull this afternoon.

The third round Challenge Cup tie represents Whitehaven's best chance to get a win under their belts after three friendly defeats and back-to-back losses to local rivals Workington Town.

Forster finished 80 minutes against Town in Sunday’s League One Cup tie battered and bruised but is refreshed and ready to go again on Humberside.

“Sunday is behind us now and we are all looking forward to the cup tie," said the coach.

"I’m sure West Hull will be really up for it, too, and we will certainly not be underestimating them.

“In the first half in particular, I am sure they are capable of giving a very good account of themselves and testing us every bit as much as a League One side.

“Over the 80 minutes, though, we have to make sure our fitness and skill levels are higher than theirs and we get through to the win, which I am sure is all we need to get us going."

Forster has to make changes from Sunday’s 22-6 loss to Town.

On the plus side, centre Connor Holliday is back after serving a one-match suspension but two players have had to drop-out.

Centre Jake Moore broke his hand in the Recreation Ground derby while half-back Steve Roper took a number of blows to the head, so he has been stood down for this week’s game.

Forster travelled up to Whitehaven yesterday afternoon to take a light training session last night and all the team set off for the long trek to Humberside earlier this morning.

The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup heads to Plymouth for the fourth round draw on Tuesday and will be conducted on board HMS Bulwark.
