Two wins inside a week have catapulted champions Distington into top spot in the Cumbria Men’s league.

But although Hensingham trail by two points, the unbeaten Whitehaven side have three matches in hand.

What will frustrate the challengers, though, is their lack of regular action. They were without a game at the weekend and are still short of a fixture this Saturday.

Distington took advantage of Hensingham’s inactivity by beating Glasson 36-22 in mid-week and then disposing of Walney Central 40-12 on Saturday.

It was Glasson’s most encouraging display for a while as their run of defeats mounts up. They have played more games than anyone else in the league and only have Ulverston below them in he table.

But at half-time on Tuesday, they were still very much in contention, trailing 22-12 and the gap remained just about the same through to the end.

The Distington tries came from Bryan Ritchie (2), Carl Stephenson, Matt Hewer, Liam Friel and Tom Glover. Kieran Worthington put over six successful kicks.

In response, there were four tries for Glasson from Brad Tremble, Joe Cottrill, Lee Birks and Andrew Patterson. Three goals came from the boots of Birks (2) and Craig Foster.

It was a bit easier for Distington on Saturday when they ran away with the game against Walney in the second half.

Central would be pleased with their first-half display, only down by 10-6 at the break, but they couldn’t stay with it on the restart and Distington ran out clear winners.

Gavin Martin helped himself to another hat-trick for the champions while Aiden Worthington, playing on dual registration from Whitehaven, grabbed a brace. Stephen Conway and Carl Stephenson also got over the Walney line.

Clayton Sutton had the responsibility of kicking goals on this occasion and he was successful six times.

For Walney, both their tries were scored by Jamie Morrow with George Nichols converting both.

Seaton Rangers have turned round their season with a series of good efforts and have climbed from bottom to fourth in the table.

Latest success was a very good 22-12 win at Ellenborough Rangers who, as a result stay third. It was always close with Seaton ahead 12-6 at the break and edged the second-half as well.

Ellenborough’s tries were scored by Jordan Ostle and Andrew Byers with Mike Hill putting over two goals.

The Seaton tries were scored by Steve Newall (2), Steven Dawes and Liam Wood with three goals from Miguel Blanco Charters.

In the Iggesund Cumberland ARL, only one game was scheduled but sadly Flimby couldn’t raise enough players to go to Egremont A. It will be awarded to Egremont as a 24-0 win.
