Keswick rocked Blackpool in their men’s hockey clash.

Blackpool had started the day at the foot of the table and the difference between the two teams soon became apparent with Keswick dominant throughout.

The home team quickly took the lead courtesy of Luke Heap, who added another two in quick succession for a hat-trick, at which point the Blackpool heads dropped and their defence started arguing among themselves.

The over-riding impression was the Keswick men had been training hard and their fitness was much better than their opponents, who were stunned by the rampaging start from the home team.

It was soon 4-0 when Steve Salveson got on the scoresheet.

Then, totally out of the blue, Blackpool managed to breech the Keswick defence on one of their rare sorties into the Keswick half to make the score 4-1.

This spurred on Keswick and Heap added his fourth for Keswick’s fifth.

The Keswick midfield were now in complete control, and strong-running resulted in Mark Bowen adding the sixth with Tom Morgan finishing from the edge of the D to make it seven.

The Keswick team maintained their momentum and Mark Proctor scored number eight, followed by Salveson adding the ninth (his second).

Finally, Proctor knocked in his second to give Keswick a resounding 10-1 win.

The two clubs then came up against each other at second-team level.

This turned out to be a much tighter game than the previous match with Blackpool in the game from the start.

However much as was the case with the first-team, Keswick’s rigorous training started to pay off with some crisp passing and strong-running leading to their first goal.

The game was then end-to-end with Blackpool equalising only for Keswick to re-take the lead courtesy of an own goal. In the second half, Dan Owen scored Keswick’s third.

Keswick were starting to get on top in the midfield battle, and the game seemed to be heading for full-time with the score at 3-1.

But Blackpool scored their second goal to set up a nail-biting finale.

Then, right on time, Will Anderson popped up to score for Keswick and secured the points in a hard-fought game.
