New Annan Athletic boss Peter Murphy has boosted his backroom staff.

The Carlisle United legend has appointed former Aberdeen and St Johnstone defender Kevin Rutkiewicz as his number two.

The pair previously played together for Ayr United.

Rutkiewicz's appointment comes as Murphy's recruitment campaign for a new-look side at Galabank continues.

The gaffer told Annan Athletic's website: "Having known Kevin for a few years, firstly meeting and playing with him at Ayr United and then doing our UEFA A Licence together, I was very excited to get him in.

"Kevin knows Scottish football inside out and has countless contacts.

"Most importantly, his enthusiasm and work ethic is infectious, which the players will thrive on.

"I feel Kevin is one of my most important signings to date.”

Rutkiewicz started his career at Aberdeen, where he spent nearly seven years, before moving to St Johnstone, for whom he made more than 100 appearances.

He then played at Dunfermline Athletic and Greenock Morton before taking a player/coaching role at Carolina RailHawks in the North American Soccer League. He moved back to Scotland in 2014.

His recruitment is part of a busy few days for incoming traffic at Annan, where Murphy completed the double signing of Dan Orsi and Owen Moxon. Their signings take the total number of players committed to the 2017/18 campaign to eight.

Murphy's shopping list includes forward players, with four of his squad so far defenders.

Annan had some of their new recruits in for training at the weekend.
