A COCKERMOUTH cricket team is celebrating after bringing the Premier Division trophy back to the town.
Cockermouth Cricket Club’s men’s first team were crowned winners of the Cumbria Cricket League’s Premier Division following their win against Dalton on Saturday, August 29.
The club’s chairman has said that the achievement, which is the fourth Premier Division title in the club’s history, has been made particularly special by the fact that it is something the whole club can share a sense of pride in.
Gareth White, chairman of Cockermouth Cricket Club said: “On behalf of everyone at Cockermouth Cricket Club, the committee and our wider membership, I’d like to congratulate [skipper] Matthew Sempill and his team on an outstanding achievement in winning the Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division title.
“To become Premier Division champions for the fourth time in the club’s history is something we can all be incredibly proud of.
“It is a fantastic reward for the hard work, commitment and consistency shown by Matthew and the players throughout the season.”
“What makes this achievement particularly special is that it is a reflection of the whole club.
“From our juniors and women and girls' section through to the senior teams, there is a real sense of pride in what Cockermouth Cricket Club represents, and this success is something everyone can share in.
“Matthew has led the side brilliantly, and I know how much the players have put into achieving this.
“Myself and the committee couldn’t be happier for them and we would like to thank every player, volunteer and supporter who has played their part.
“We’ve waited since 2018 for this one and to finally bring the Premier Division trophy back to Cockermouth is a fantastic feeling. It’s a great day for the club and one we should all enjoy.”
