Carlisle United won 4-2 against Scunthorpe United – so how did we rate the players at Brunton Park?
ADAM DESBOIS – 7
Keeper was in the thick of the action at times, and made some excellent saves, though his attempted punch was costly for Scunthorpe’s first goal. His long ball then unsettled them for Linney's strike.
JACK ELLIS – 7
The Cumbrian showed his adaptability once more by starting strongly in defence then contributing well in midfield in a splendid all-round showing.
BRAD NICHOLSON – 7
Nicholson made some defiant blocks and clearances and his defensive leadership made him one of Carlisle's most important players when things threatened to get tricky.
RYAN GALVIN – 6
United’s defence seldom looks entirely secure at the moment and Galvin was not at his most composed when Scunthorpe gave the Blues a few troubles.
JOSH WILLIAMS – 8
A highly effective return to the starting XI, as Williams showed pace and positive intent on the right, and was rewarded with his first United goal in his hour-long showing.
MIGUEL AZEEZ – 7
Got the ball rolling with another well-taken goal. Azeez did some further good and composed midfield work to link Carlisle’s efforts as attackers looked to cut loose.
HARVEY BUNKER – 6
No headlines again this time for Bunker but his presence was an important factor as Carlisle built some intense attacking spells in Scunthorpe territory.
STEPHEN WEARNE – 6
On his first start of the season, Wearne was busy as ever in his movement and involved in some of Carlisle’s effective first-half attacks before he went off.
DAVID AJIBOYE – 7
Was a growing danger in the game as he ran at Scunthorpe in the inside-right area. Ajiboye was tricky for the Iron to handle and almost got a goal of his own.
REGAN LINNEY – 7
Enjoyed the sort of freedom he relishes on the left. Once he got going, he tucked home a goal and caused plenty more danger against Butler’s backpedalling defence.
GEORGIE KELLY – 6
Another day of hard slog for Kelly in the face of some heavy defensive attention. Did not always get sufficient protection, and did not enjoy any real chances himself, but always ensured Carlisle had a physical platform and his involvement helped lead to goals.
Subs: Leo Duru. Made one goal, could have scored one. 7
Morgan Feeney. Captain on for frantic latter defensive stages. 6
Junior Luamba. Instant scoring impact and could have had more. 7
Cameron Harper. On in midfield as United tried to see it through. 6
Luke Skinner. Couple of attacking runs late on. 6
Star man – Josh Williams. In the starting line-up for the first time this season, Williams’ impact was dynamic. His pace and drive were highlights of Carlisle's best spells, and he capped things with his first career goal.
