Workington Town Ladies travel to Warrington Wolves

The competition pits the best clubs against each other from the divisions below Super League, as Town go into the game against Warrington, the lowest placed side left in the competition in League One, with the other 3 semi-finalists, Hull KR, Manchester Swinton Lions, and Warrington Wolves, all being in the upper echelon of the Championship division. 

Town were entering the game in fine form with just one loss all season against Wakefield Trinity last week, following 6 unbeaten in all competitions, including a superb victory against Championship side Hull FC in the same competition. 

The Wire, however, poses a totally different challenge, Super League-based last season and relegated due to being unable to fulfil their fixtures.

They’ve hit the ground well and truly running in the championship with 5 wins and a solitary loss to their name so far after 6 rounds (Cardiff Demons 38-28 Warrington Wolves). 

Towns' defence will have to be on point as the Wire have knocked up an impressive 236 points in their six games at an average of 39 points a game. 

Town themselves have struck across the park, and the Wire were very much aware of this: “We will have to be respectful of them (Town), their league position doesn’t lie, and they are a team who won’t go away. 

"They are a team with some real pace, and they will cause us some real problems if we let them play to their strengths.

"They have a never-say-die attitude, and that was clear to see against Wakefield”. 

Warrington also paid credit to the Town Spine. “The 6 for Town (Keeley Chatters) is a superb kicker of the ball, but also has some real precision with it, who isn’t afraid to take on the line.

"We need to make sure we defend that if we want to progress on Sunday and nullify the rest of the speed from the other half (Josie Scrimgour) and fullback (Kacey Currie), who looked to have Trinity on the back foot last week at times and have been excellent this season."
