WORKINGTON Town Ladies returned to the Paddock on Sunday following a successful shutout of Rochdale Hornets last week.
They were looking to continue their fine form when Illingworth landed for round 5 of the Northern League One Division game.
As Town look to make it five games unbeaten in the league, they can have great solace in the fact that they could welcome back four big players in Josie Scrimgour, Nikita Gibson & Evie Tonkin to the side, which is already looking head and shoulder above the majority of the league.
The visitors sat two positions and four points worse off than their hosts as they came into the game with one win, one draw, and two losses to their name. The most recent was a 32-18 reverse at Leigh Miners Rangers 3 weeks ago.
The game started in very unseasonable wind and with big runs from Beth Adams and Bethani Fearns, Town opened the scoring in 3 minutes with Georgia Naylor out of dummy half. Chatter's bettering the score for 6-0.
Town went back to back in the following set when Beth Adams again laid a big platform for Fearns to go over after 6 minutes for 10-0, Chatters, once again making good with the boot for 12-0.
The kick off was collected by Illingworth after it went out without a Town player being able to catch it. Illingworth, however, didn’t make the possession count potentially due to the ever-strengthening wind and the lack of handling skills.
This was all Town needed to give them a kick as Leonie Bragg was the beneficiary of a great break by Evie Tonkin, still with work to do, the youngsters bust 3 tacklers and went in under the posts, Chatters going 3/3 to see them 18-0 up inside 12 minutes.
Town looked to score a fourth try when Scrimgour made a superb break down the industrial estate side before Currie lost the ball in contact over the line.
In 15 minutes, Nikita Gibson was replaced by Chloe Archer as Town lost possession in the wind. The game then went back and forth between the two with knocks aplenty in a wind that spectators struggled to stand in.
Town then scored on 24 minutes to take their lead out to 22-0 when a coming together between the sides allowed Scrimgour to go over. The kick is missing just behind the sticks into the wind.
Town took their lead out to 30-0 when Kayley-Robinson Murray crossed twice in the second half following superb play by the backs. The wild wind was once again too much for Chatter to better either score.
Robinson-Murray completed a career first-ever hat-trick towards the end of the game to cap off a fantastic display for 38-6.
