WORKINGTON Town Ladies made the trip to Manchester looking to keep their unbeaten record intact against newly promoted Rochdale at the Hive Pavilion, a community venue set up aided by Sport England and National Lottery funds.
Town got the game underway through the boot of Chatters and were penalised in the first set for obstruction, but later forced an error from the hosts.
The visitors looked to cross on 4 minutes, but a wayward pass saw Rochdale survive. The game for the next 10 minutes swung between both sides, with inconsistent sets giving neither side any sort of advantage to close out the opening 15 minutes.
The 18th minute was when the deadlock was broken as Caitlin Jenkinson used some superb footwork following a line ball to score 10 meters from the posts. Chatter's bettering the score to 0-6 after 18 minutes.
Town then continued to dominate the possession, but Rochdale did well to keep the visitors to just the one score in half an hour.
The second score came on 32 minutes when Leonie Bragg smashed a hole into the Hornets' defence to feed Kacey Currie, who raced under the posts. Chatters going 2/2 and 0-12 to Town.
The stroke of half-time saw the hosts' biggest spell of possession on the Town line, but the visitors held well.
The second half started with Town knocking on, but survived and went the distance to the pitch, and were held up. The visitors then forced a knock on with tight defence.
Town were over following the next set as the forwards laid a platform for Georgia Naylor to burrow over under the posts for a deserved try. Chatters going 3/3.
Town were starting to gain the upper hand when Rochdale gave away a penalty in possession; however, an inexperienced Town player passed the ball on the first and lost the ball.
Town were under the pump when Chloe Archer knocked on from a kick 12 meters off the line, but were able to keep the Hornets out.
The game then swung back and forth before Darcey Worth was taken high from the following set. Misfud ran through to score with 4 Hornets defenders on her back. Chatters are missing the conversion for 0-22.
Town went back-to-back when Bethani Fearns scored on the hooter to round off a superb debut performance following a long lay off. Chatters are missing from wide. To see the Town come away with a 0-26 victory.
