A RUGBY league player who made 63 appearances in two spells with Whitehaven has announced his retirement from the game.
Second-row forward Liam Cooper, who scored 10 tries during his time with the club, has decided to step away from the sport due to family commitments and work outside rugby.
Mr Cooper said: "Gutted to be calling time on my rugby career earlier than I would have liked, but with my growing family and work away from rugby, unfortunately, it is the best option for me and my family for me to retire.
"As mentioned, I have a baby due in May and a soon to be 3 year old who will no doubt keep me on my toes, and I can devote more of my time and attention towards my family."
He expressed regret that he could not finish his career on the pitch, but thanked his most recent club for their support following an injury.
Mr Cooper said: "Wish I could have got the chance to repay the club back on the pitch, but I’m sure Salford will get back to where they belong."
