Former Carlisle United defender Gary Liddle has taken a senior coaching role with National League rivals Hartlepool United.
He has stepped up at Pools to be first-team coach under Nicky Featherstone.
It is Liddle's latest role at the club where he had long playing spells, and had already been working in their youth set-up.
And the move sees Liddle leave his role as manager of Whitby Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division in order to go full-time with the Monkey Hangers.
The 39-year-old, who was on Carlisle's books from 2017 to 2019, hopes to help play-off chasing Pools to success under the recently-appointed Featherstone.
“I’m really proud to be appointed first team Coach at Pools. I know this club extremely well and a large part of my adult and football life has been spent here, so it means a great deal to me," said Liddle in a club statement.
“It’s been great to be back around the club again through my work in the academy and now I want to help Nicky take the first team to where we believe it should be.”
“I’ve played alongside Nicky and know him well, and we share the same ideas about how the team should work, train and play."
Liddle made 117 appearances for Carlisle and scored two goals during his spell at Brunton Park.
In between spells at Hartlepool, the former defender also played for Notts County, Bradford City, Chesterfield and Walsall, also later turning out for South Shields and Spennymoor Town.
Hartlepool, who are ninth and two points outside the play-off places, host fourth-placed Carlisle later this month on Wednesday, February 25. The north east club went down to a 3-1 defeat at Brunton Park earlier this season under previous boss Simon Grayson.
Former interim boss Featherstone was appointed as permanent manager in December at Pools, who were also recently taken over by American businessman Landon Smith.
