Hartlepool United boss Nicky Featherstone has confirmed he is interested in Carlisle United's Stephen Wearne.
The Blues' fellow National League club have been linked with the attacking midfielder.
And Featherstone has admitted that Wearne is "on the list" of potential recruits at Victoria Park.
Speaking in a BBC Tees interview when asked about Wearne, Featherstone said: "Another one that's on the list, been discussed.
"Nothing more than that at the minute.
"What I've seen of him, whether that's playing against him me personally, or watching him from afar, he's got quality and would definitely add to this group.
"But he's just a player that's been identified, that's what it is at the minute, nothing more or less."
Featherstone added that he was due to have a further meeting on recruitment as Pools consider possible additions to their squad.
He added that the weekend was "probably too soon" for any signings.
Wearne has been out of favour at Carlisle in recent weeks, the former Gateshead and MK Dons man yet to make an appearance in 2026.
He has played 22 times for United this season but has started only one league game since October, with the likes of Chris Conn-Clarke and Elliot Embleton pushing ahead of Wearne in the attacking midfield pecking order.
The 25-year-old joined Carlisle in January 2025 under previous boss Mike Williamson. He has made 40 appearances in total for the Blues, scoring two goals.
Hartlepool are ninth in the National League. They are due to host Carlisle on February 25.
United have so far seen a number of departures from the squad this month, with permanent exits for Will Patching and Jude Smith along with a loan departure for Josh Grant.
