CUMBRIA Cricket has announced a major boost for young players across the county as it prepares to relaunch its junior District Cricket Programme.

The programme will launch under a new name, The MCC Foundation & District Cricket Programme, beginning January 2026.

The rebrand marks a strengthened partnership with the MCC Foundation and highlights a shared commitment to expanding access to high-quality cricket coaching.

In its biggest change, the revamped programme will now be completely free of charge, ensuring all eligible boys and girls can take part regardless of financial circumstances.

Alongside removing fees, the programme will offer several additional developments, including:

  • Separate sessions for boys and girls
  • Increased winter training time
  • More summer match opportunities

Starting in mid-January, the 10-week programme will deliver 90-minute sessions for the following age groups:

  • Boys U13s and U15s
  • Girls U14s and U17s

The MCC Foundation & District Cricket Programme will sit just below the County Age Group (CAG) structure and act as a crucial link between club cricket and the county’s representative pathway.

Young players can choose to attend both the CAG course and the new district programme if they wish.

More details, including coaching appointments, training plans, and trial dates, will be released in the coming weeks.

Cumbria Cricket’s Head of Performance, David Fallows, said the relaunch reflects the organisation’s ambition to raise standards while widening participation.

He said: “The MCC Foundation & District Cricket Programme demonstrates our commitment to nurturing local talent, supporting player development, and widening access to the game.

"This rebrand marks an exciting step forward in delivering inclusive, high-standard cricket to young people across the region.”
