Former Carlisle United manager Neil McDonald has left his role with one of the Blues' National League rivals.
McDonald has departed Hartlepool United, where he had been assistant coach to boss Simon Grayson for two months.
It has proved a short-lived spell at Pools for McDonald, who was Carlisle's boss in 2006/07.
His final game with the club was a 2-1 home defeat to York City on Saturday.
Prior to that, he was with the Monkey Hangers at Brunton Park last Wednesday as Hartlepool lost 3-1 against McDonald's former club Carlisle.
Pools, who are 11th in the National League, have replaced McDonald with the former South Shields boss and Newcastle United and Sunderland academy coach Elliott Dickman.
He will be first-team coach as Nicky Featherstone serves as assistant manager.
In a statement, Hartlepool said they had "parted ways" with McDonald, adding: "We wish Neil all the best in his future endeavours."
The 59-year-old had been drafted in by Grayson in a role that was confirmed shortly before the start of the 2025/26 season.
He had previously been with National League North club Kidderminster Harriers as assistant to Phil Brown.
McDonald's Carlisle tenure saw him in charge for the 2006/07 season, guiding the Blues to eighth in League One after he replaced Paul Simpson following the latter's move to Preston North End.
McDonald was then sacked by the Cumbrians one game into the 2007/08 campaign.
