PETER Murphy's Queen of the South have re-signed the formerly Carlisle-bound goalkeeper Ross Stewart.

The 29-year-old, who has joined the Dumfries outfit on a one-year contract, embarks on his second spell for the Doonhamers following a loan spell in 2019-20 where he made nine appearances for the club.

Stewart, who has also represented St Mirren, Livingston, and Hearts, looked set to joining the Blues in December 2023, however, saw his move scuppered by a registration issue.

The deal also comes after Murphy secured the services of former Carlisle United midfielder Brennan Dickenson for the 2024/25 Scottish League One campaign at Palmerston Park.

Dickenson, who was with Carlisle from 2020 to 2023, spent a spell of last season on loan at Hartlepool United, having joined fellow National League club Oldham last summer.

After the deal to bring Stewart back to Queen of the South was announced on Monday, June 3, Murphy welcomed the shot-stopper back to Dumfries.

Speaking on the club's website, he said: "We are delighted to welcome Ross Stewart back to the club. Ross has an excellent background in football, with a wealth of experience playing and training alongside some exceptional goalkeepers.

"Now is Ross' time to claim that number-one spot.

"At 29 years old Ross brings much-needed experience to our squad after last season."
