Carlisle United have gone back to the future by re-signing defender Aaron Hayden.

The released Wrexham man was a popular figure in his first stint at Brunton Park from 2019 to 2021.

As well as putting in some strong defensive displays, Hayden also proved adept in the opposition box...as these highlights remind us.

Hayden headed his first United goal in only his sixth appearance to win an FA Cup second round replay against Forest Green Rovers...(when his central defensive partner was a certain Jarrad Branthwaite)...

His first league goal followed later that season, again showing Hayden's set-piece prowess against Swindon Town...

Then came another towering header as Hayden rescued a point for Chris Beech's Blues against Morecambe...

There's a theme developing here...Hayden's first goal of 2020/21 was another headed finish as he pounced for a winner against Colchester United at Brunton Park...

The very next game, he was at it again - Hayden rising above the rest to score in a draw at Oldham...

Next for Hayden was a clinching strike at Crawley Town to wrap up a 3-0 victory - a collectors' item in that, for once, this was a goal with his feet...

Back on more familiar form...here's Hayden heading home a Callum Guy free-kick to open the scoring in a 3-3 draw with Bolton...

Hayden's final goal for the Cumbrians was this header (of course) - a consolation goal in a defeat to Morecambe...

And, just for good measure, here's Hayden's most recent goal for his last club Wrexham - unsurprisingly, a header from a corner...

Plenty more of the above in 2024/25 please, Aaron...
