Carlisle United have been installed as one of the early bookies' frontrunners for League Two promotion next season.

The bookmakers have published their list of odds for the 2024/25 season after the full fourth tier line-up was confirmed.

And Bet365 make United joint third favourites for the title at a price of 12/1.

Paul Simpson's side are also 11/4 to be promoted either automatically or via the play-offs and make an immediate return to League One.

With the new season more than two-and-a-half months away and most of clubs' summer recruitment yet to take place, odds are likely to change ahead of the big kick-off on the weekend of August 10.

But the early favourite in League Two is Chesterfield, who are 8/1 to make it back-to-back titles after the Spireites stormed to the National League championship.

And Paul Cook's side, who recently brought in ex-Carlisle frontman Paddy Madden from current League Two champs Stockport County, are 7/4 for a second consecutive promotion by any route.

Second favourites for the title in 2024/25 are MK Dons, who lost out to Crawley Town in the recent play-off semi-finals. Mike Williamson's side are 10/1.

Carlisle then feature in a cluster of clubs priced 12/1 to win the division.

Simpson's men share those odds with former play-off rivals Bradford City as well as Notts County, Salford City and Gillingham.

United have the shortest odds of any of the relegated clubs, despite finishing a distant bottom of League One in 2023/24.

Play-off semi-finalists Doncaster Rovers are 14/1 along with relegated Port Vale, with AFC Wimbledon and Walsall 16/1 for the title.

Among a group of clubs at 20/1 is Barrow, who narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, with beaten play-off finalists Crewe Alexandra similarly priced along with Cheltenham Town, who came down from League One with United.

Fleetwood Town have the longest odds of the relegated quartet at 25/1.

The rank outsiders are judged to be Morecambe, at 66/1, and EFL new boys Bromley, who have similar odds.

Next longest odds are offered for Newport County and Harrogate Town, who are 40/1 to win League Two.

The new season fixtures will be released on Wednesday, June 26.
