Former Carlisle United keeper Tony Elliott is back on the move.

He is set to leave his role as lead goalkeeping coach of Birmingham City Women.

The 54-year-old is moving on after a second spell with the club, it has been announced.

Elliott has spent the last three years with Birmingham.

He has previously held a number of coaching roles and has been heavily involved in the Football Association in several positions.

In a statement, Birmingham said: "Blues Women can confirm that Tony Elliott will depart the Club.

"The Lead Goalkeeping Coach has spent a total of six years at Birmingham City, across two separate spells, first joining back in the summer of 2018.

"During his time at the Club, he has played a key role in the development of several goalkeepers, including Hannah Hampton and more recently Lucy Thomas, both of whom have gone on to represent England at different age groups.

"He will continue his duties with the England Para Squads and also as Lead Goalkeeping Coach for the Lionesses' Under-16 age group.

"The club would like to thank Tony for his service during his time at Blues and wishes him the best for the future."

Elliott played for United in the 1990s having previously been on the books of Birmingham, Hereford United and Huddersfield Town.

He was with the Cumbrians from 1993 to 1996 and was a trusted member of the 1994/95 squad that won the Division Three title and went to Wembley for the first time in the Auto-Windscreens Shield.

Late in that league campaign Elliott came into the side in place of regular No1 Tony Caig and produced a stunning performance in a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield which is still talked about as one of United's most memorable goalkeeping displays.

His coaching career has also included a spell with Workington Reds as well as a period with United's academy.
