Paul Simpson has confirmed the date when Carlisle United’s players will return to start preparations for League Two.

The relegated Blues will start pre-season training on Monday, June 24 ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, some 58 days after the end of last season.

Simpson has stressed that he wants many of his new signings through the door by then.

United’s boss has also confirmed he is planning to take his squad to Scotland for a pre-season camp, for the third consecutive summer.

The need to bring in a number of new players by that point is key, Simpson said.

“Our first day of pre-season is the 24th of June, so we ideally want them [new signings] in,” he said.

“We've got a trip up to Scotland planned, and that's a couple of weeks further down the line, but I would expect and I would hope that we've got the bulk of our group together [by then], because that's a big thing in terms of how we want to change the mentality that we've had this season and change the dynamic in the group.

“Hopefully that trip will help us.”

Simpson has taken his squad to Largs and the University of St Andrews in respective summers.

United’s manager, regarding recruitment, hopes Carlisle can act proactively this summer following their relegation back to the fourth tier.

The Blues’ recruitment last year was delayed after the play-off campaign and Carlisle duly struggled to get good enough League One signings through the door.

The Cumbrians aim to make a more proactive impact on the market this time around, with owner Tom Piatak having stressed they will have "all the resources they need" to build a team that can fight for promotion.

“Circumstances didn't help us last year, but that's gone now,” added United boss Simpson, who confirmed his retained and released list on Monday and is spending further time this week chasing up leads on potential signings.

“There's no point bleating over what happened last year. It's about being front foot and getting ourselves set for next season.”

The new League Two season will start on the weekend of August 10-11. Fixture release date has not yet been confirmed by the EFL.
