Carlisle United fans gave us their views on social media platform X after the 1-0 defeat to Blackpool - here's a selection of their comments.

Poor game all round. We never got going properly and even the brief flashes of football were spoiled by bad touches/passes/understanding. Positives - 90 minutes for Kelly, JJ’s threat and Armer showing attacking intent (@tim_martland)

Nothing game. How we conceded after 35 seconds god knows. 5 midfielders injured doesn’t help. Roll on next season. (@SAMaccaEsq)

The problem with Tuesday night was, it made a few people think, "hey, maybe we're not so bad?". No. We are so bad. This is just what we needed. It keeps in sharp focus how much work is required this summer to breathe life back into this team, both on and off the pitch. (@1StevieKilner)

Same old serving of predictable tactics and lack of quality, nothing has changed. Very disappointing performance with no real pluses. There has to be drastic changes made for next season. Any repeat of this season is not acceptable. (@peterjo91525330)

Blackpool offered nothing after their 21 seconds goal. We offered nothing for the full 95 mins. Thank god the season only has 180 mins plus added time of life left (@dougrmurphy)

A game very much lacking quality not helped by the conditions. Carlisle lacking any attacking flair even after subs. Quite a miserable afternoon, generally. (@havenmarra)

Another hapless performance. Not sure if we are getting better or worse or whether the opposition gravitate to our level of performance. As to your awards - will it be for 'least ineffective' or 'Tried Hardest'? I don't think we had a player of the year. (@BruceVander)

We played them off the park before they scored and then we were awful. Total clear out needed. That was as bad as it gets. (@scholes_peter)

I was a long, long way from home, and didn't see the game/performance but starting with that line-up of 7 defenders at home, while having Diamond/Dudik/Kayode on the bench, when you are already relegated is appallingly negative. (@tashkentterror)

Shocking, did we even have a shot on target? It was only 1-0 due to Blackpool being poor up front. 1-0 down, relegated, nothing to lose and Simmo wouldn't let Hunts go up in the 89th minute !!!! (@PaulMar21281685)

Scary thing is we paid good money in January and are these players actually better than what we had…?! Holy>Lewis? Edmondson>Armstrong? Performances/results suggest not… time will tell. 🤞🏻 (Jonnyreay)

More evidence that a major overhaul of midfielders and full-backs is required. Keep Neal, McGeouch, Guy and sign Fin Back if possible. The rest, including Mellish, are surplus to requirements. (@ostrichtowers)

Awful performance again , just shows how bad we really are. I couldn’t pick a man of the match because they were all terrible, subs made no difference either. Much worse team than last season. It was so bad it was almost funny , if you know what I mean !!! (@beetler43)

From Christmas we actually got worse, the people we brought in were never going to stop relegation, deeply disappointed in the quality signed. Seemed like a waste of money & contracts. (@Dougmacd9826)

Very much a team just going through the motions waiting for their contracts to be terminated! Frustrating to watch and embarrassed (@barry_maxey)

If they'd played without a goalkeeper we still wouldn't have scored. So tricky when you're a goal down after 30 seconds (@cufcman56)

Dire again! (@MikeTurney7)

Lacking quality at the crucial moments. Plenty of earnest effort as there has been all season. Kayode injected some much needed confidence. I think the thoroughly miserable downpour at the end of the match summed it up nicely. (@MeatsDan)

Playing as many defensively minded players at home when you're already relegated to me reeks of trying to avoid any further hammerings before the season ends. Simpson is scared of the opposition, rather than going for it. (@daverigg)
