Taylor Charters’ season is over while Dylan McGeouch will undergo a scan tomorrow as Carlisle United count the cost of late-season injuries.

A hamstring injury will rule Charters out for four weeks and boss Paul Simpson says the Blues won’t rush the Cumbrian back before the end of the campaign.

And fellow midfielder McGeouch has a calf injury which kept him out of the home defeat to Lincoln City, and is now being examined.

On Charters, who had to be substituted in the first half of Good Friday’s victory at Peterborough United, Simpson said: “It’s classed as a mild 2B hamstring strain, which is a four-week injury, we’re told.

“Four weeks takes us to the Derby game [on the last day of the season] but because of his history [with hamstring injuries], we need to be careful, so that we don’t rush it and he ends up not being available for pre-season.

“We’re just going to have to wait and see how that goes.”

Experienced midfielder McGeouch had to sit out the Lincoln game after feeling discomfort in his calf following Friday’s 3-1 win over Posh.

The extent of the problem should become clearer after he is scanned.

“He thought it was a kick, but he tried to go [train on it] yesterday and said he just felt something in there which wasn’t right,” said Simpson after the Lincoln defeat.

“Dylan wanted to play, and tried to train but felt it and it was too risky.

“We couldn’t take a chance on him because if he’s got a bleed on there that’s turned into something else, it can be a real long term one.

“We can’t take the risk of pushing him and making it worse.

“We’ll get it scanned and we’ll find out from there what it is.

“We hope it might be good news but in truth we haven’t had many scan results that have been good news over this season.”

Simpson, who replaced the sidelined duo with Jordan Gibson and Jack Robinson against Lincoln, has a further shortage of midfielders thanks to the knee injury that has ended Josh Vela’s season early, and Callum Guy’s ACL injury which he suffered in November.
