Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford has earned his latest call-up by England Under-21s.

The Burnley No1, from Greysouthen, is named in Lee Carsley's squad for European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Trafford has been long-established as the Under-21s' first-choice keeper, having starred in last summer's Euros triumph.

The 21-year-old former Carlisle United academy prospect is in the latest 24-man squad for the qualifying double-header later this month.

Trafford and his team-mates face Azerbaijan in Baku on Friday, March 22, before a home clash with Luxembourg on Tuesday, March 26 at Bolton Wanderers' Toughsheet Community Stadium, which was Trafford's home ground during last season's loan spell from Manchester City.

He has since gone on to be an ever-present for Vincent Kompany's Burnley in the Premier League this season after moving from City last summer.

Farmer's son Trafford is joined in the squad by the likes of Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, who is in the Under-21 ranks for the first time.

Liverpool's Harvey Elliott also features in the 24-man group, with Luton Town's Teden Mengi, Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka, AFC Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Leeds United’s Archie Gray and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers selected for the first time.

Trafford's Under-21 call-up comes a day after his former international team-mate and fellow Cumbrian Jarrad Branthwaite earned a full England call-up from Gareth Southgate.
