Charlton Athletic have bolstered their attack ahead of Carlisle United's visit with the signing of Connor Wickham.

The 30-year-old free agent has joined this weekend's opponents on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Wickham had been unattached since a spell with Cardiff City in the second half of last season.

The big frontman has been training with Nathan Jones' Addicks squad in recent weeks.

Charlton manager Jones told the club website: "Connor’s been here for a couple of weeks and we like the human being, so that’s the start.

"The experience, physicality and quality he has makes him a really good signing. We’re pleased to have him in and it’ll be interesting to see how much we can get out of him."

Wickham said he was "excited" to join the south London club, adding: “It’s a good opportunity for me to work with a good group of lads and a good manager for the last part of the season, so it’s something I’m looking forward to.

"Results lately have picked up and it’s going to be a big push until the end of the season.”

Wickham joins Charlton attacking ranks that include 22-goal Alfie May as well as frontman such as Freddie Ladapo and Daniel Kanu.

Before his spell with Cardiff, the striker was with Forest Green Rovers. He has also played for Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Preston North End and MK Dons, and he is a former England Under-21 international.
