A dream opportunity for golf operators has emerged, as the council has appealed for new management of its Carlisle golf course.

Cumberland Council is seeking fresh operators to manage the Stony Holme Golf Course in Carlisle, an 18-hole course that received the title of the 'Best Municipal Golf Course 2023'.

The site, boasting a parkland course par 69, is situated within city limits and comes equipped with amenities such as a bar, restaurant, and a club house with breathtaking views over the course.

At Stony Holme, operators will not only have the task of managing golf activities, but would also be overseeing the catering service, rendering it a mixed opportunity for potential candidates.

The facility is expected to promote health and wellbeing, contributing to the wider agenda of the Cumberland Council.

Although no other municipal golf site exists within the council's region, various privately-operated sites operate within the area.

Affiliated to the Cumbria County Club Union, players can acquire a handicap and participate in recognised competitions on the course.

The candidate would be expected to increase the number of course users, particularly amongst older individuals, improve the course's services, and have high customer standards.

Furthermore, the catering facility is expected to align with the council's strategic food framework by offering healthy, community-sourced options.

Working with other agencies to broadcast golf's active wellbeing benefits is another requirement of the potential management.

Additionally, they are required to report on the social value and health benefits of the service provided.

The council also expects the candidate to ensure the subsidy can be reduced to zero within the first five years of operation.

Furthermore, the supplier is obliged to collaborate with one third-sector organisation each financial year to boost the participation of underrepresented demographics.

The tender, extending to ten years with a possible further five-year extension, presents a golden opportunity for golf operators.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 2.

Individuals interested in taking up the management of the golf course can apply on the council's website.
